Interview with CEO & Creator of Message in a Jacket Dante Byrd
When I first saw this collection, I was in awe of the message on the jacket. Now most of you know I am Christian so this caught my eye right away. I instantly fell In love with all the items. Not only is it’s stylish and you can get your item custom made but this is such a great way to witness to people who may not know Christ.
Now enough about me loving this collection. I would like to introduce to you the CEO & Creator of this amazing collection, Dante Byrd. I know you will be inspired by her story and how she’s building her brand.
Tell us about Dante Byrd How did you get started?
I am a full time Social Media Strategist for MGM National Harbor as well as a freelance photographer.
What was the influence or the motivation behind creating Message in a Jacket?
My love for God ultimately brought me to creating Message-In-A-Jacket. I love fashion and I love God and I have always prayed that God would allow me to share who he is… and what a better way than to include my two loves of fashion and God. I sometimes get nervous or stutter when trying to share God with people. Creating Message-In-A-Jacket was/is a tool to allow people to witness without feeling like you have to say anything in particular. But instead you can simply be a walking advertisement…My goal isn’t based on profit my goal is based on how many people I can get to share the word of God. Just to have an open conversation. “ nice jacket- thanks I love this patch or bible verse on this jacket because of…” just that simple your opening yourself up to share the good news of God
How do you fill about the representation of how fashion and beauty are being portrayed today?
I love that fashion allows you to share something about yourself without saying anything. What you wear makes the statement before you speak or introduce yourself. You can tell a lot about a person by what they wear or colors they choose frequently.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to started their own business or brand?
DO IT! Will it be easy…. Nope. Will it be worth it YES! And most importantly pray about everything. I pray about anything and everything down to what I wear in the morning. Sounds odd to some, but if I can trust God to dress me in the morning it’s just a small exercise I do to learn his voice and what he wants me to do.
What’s next forMessage in a Jacket?
In just the short time of selling Message-In-A-Jacket I’ve listened to what God wants on the jacket and in doing so I’ve rebranded the jackets and sweatshirts! On February 1st I will launch the new jackets and customers will be able to customize the jackets with 1 patch and their favorite verse. I am doing away with adding so many patches, I feel that adding so many patches is taking away from the message and the reason why Message-In-A-Jacket was created.
