Interview with Hair Stylist, and Author, Kish Jae.
Kisha Jae is a well known Hair Stylist, Author, and Inspirational Speaker. I am so happy that she agreed to do this interview, I know you will be inspired by her story.
Q. Tell us about The Kish Jae brand. How did you get started?
A. Well, my story is a little unconventional. I never wanted to be a hairdresser I just knew how to do hair. Growing up I had always wanted to be a teacher because I love learning. I used to do hair as a side hustle and my grandmother insisted that I not be a “kitchentician” so at the age of 21 I went to cosmetology school. It still took years for me to enter the industry. It wasn’t until I started going to Beauty trade shows that I became passionate about the beauty industry.
Because of my love for learning it gave me a new outlook on the the industry and I took pride in the knowledge I received at these shows and broughtit back to my clients to educate them on proper hair care.
Q. What was the influence or the motivation behind creating your brand and writing a book?
Q. The road to writing my book was a tough one. It took years for me to become comfortable with being able to tell my story because for so many years I had been ashamed. Aside from close friends, family and my husband; No one really knew what I went through as a child and as a teen mom. Writing my book wasn’t about me, it’s about helping young girls. Letting them know whatever they may be going through or have gone through they are not alone and they will get through. For me, it was about being the woman I needed when I felt alone and abandoned.
Q. Being that you are into beauty business… How do you fill about the representation of how beauty is being portrayed?
A. Honestly, as much as I love the beauty industry sometimes I feel it’s a little misleading to young women. You have all these Beauty companies portraying what’s “supposed” supposed to be beautiful but it’s not limited view. All women are beautiful! We each hold a particular uniqueness that God has given us and we need to find and know it from within, not just what we see on TV and in magazines.
Q. What advice would you give to someone who wants pursue being in the beauty business, whether there it’s hair, or being author, etc.?
A. The beauty industry is so saturated right now. It seems like everyone is a hairdresser, make up artist or model. Social media has helped in bringing this industry to the forefront, especially YouTube and if you are not confident, dedicated and passionate about your craft. It will be show through your work. I tell people all the time how much I love what I do and truth be told…I really do love what I do. This world is made up of monkey see monkey do and if you really don’t love it don’t do it.
Learn your craft, study your craft and live your craft!
Q. What’s next for The Kisha Jae Brand.?
A. What’s next for Kisha Jae? I have so many amazing ideas but right now it’s all about timing. I’m currently working on relaunching my hair extension company. I’m big on education so I’m taking a little hiatus from events to study my craft, so I’ll be attending a lot of shows and taking a bunch of classes. To stay relevant in any field , education is key.
