Q. I love the name scissors!! How did you come up with this name?
A. Scissors came about; when I was sitting in my room trying to figure out what was the next step in my life. What was I going to do, God told me to write down everything I love, to do. I love singing, sewing, mentoring, cooking, and doing hair. All of a suddenI realized a lot of these things involves scissors whether figurative or literally. You have scissors for hair, sewing, cooking, and even spiritually, you are cutting out bad habits in order for good things to happen and if you work out you cutting fat to build muscle. So Isaid scissors is perfect, it works for everything. So I didn't think of doing a vlog but people were asking me how you do your hair like that, where did you get that shirt from. I would try to text people what I did, how I did, send pictures and try to walk them, through and it became hard. So, I was like why don't I just create a vlog, and upload videos and do it that way. Basically scissors came about by having a conversation with God.
Q. How important is it to have a mentor?
A. Mentorship is very important. I think everyone needs a mentor, the reason why because there are curtains places and things I've never been if I have a question I need someone who has already been there and has been successful at it. It's doesn't matter how old someone is, if they already have perfected that I need them to show me. I don't think age have anything to do with, it's determines what's in their heart, who is in your corner, and someone who is involved in you. You need a mentor who will be transparent and trustworthy.
Q. Being that you are a fly curvy girl.. How do you feel about the representation of today's full figured/plus size?
A. I think we are ill represented, shamed, and over looked. Doing this vlog wasn't the main reason I stared but I hope people who are curvy, look like me be encourage and not be ashamed of who they are. I think society put so much on size. When I was young, I was an a very very curvy girl, but back then it was the skinny girls, they liked. they would say oh, she fat or big. Now that I have ate myself to this and 30 lbs - 40 lbs heavier, that’s what they want. You have all types of curvy shapes, for you get to that shape, and now that not in style either. So I decided just to be me. I think I carrying myself we'll, I make sure I have on the right garments. I just think social media don't do justice. We are made to feel a certain type of way because we don't look like what is the norm, so now we take picture and make jokes of people who aren’t shape like you think. (Now don't get me wrong some women need to wear better garments.) So who to say that person you made fun of doesn't feel depressed. You didn't do the same thing to the girl with the big butts all waist or hips. I think curvy girls are misrepresented a lot, and made to feel unappreciated. I just hope with my vlog or my look book it will inspire someone and my goals is to celebrate all shapes and sizes.
Q. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start, a Vlog but not sure what to do?
A. This is a hard question, only because I just started myself. However, I would say just do it, just start. For me I wanted everything perfect before I started, so I wasted time, but just start and you can perfect along the way. So don't put so much energy in perfect, you may have some people, along the way that will help you. Just do it.
Q. What's next for Scissors?
A. What's next, I like to keep chopping on posting on my vlog. Really, really what's next... God has been dealing with me and my transparency, through video. I do have a hard time with that because I'm a very private person. Think He is chiming in on my heart to tell my story, so I will we be working on that. I know by sharing my story it will free somebody. Also I will be doing an empowerment segment and will be featuring / celebrating other business as well.
